Gujarat Institutions Turn Self-Reliant in Cooking Gas with Biogas Push

Gujarat is rapidly advancing its transition to alternative energy by promoting biogas adoption across institutions. Under the Institutional Biogas Scheme, gaushalas, trusts, and campuses are converting organic waste into clean cooking fuel. In the past five years, over 193 plants with a combined capacity of nearly 13,955 cubic metres per day have been established. At Shrimati Manekba Vinay Vihar near Adalaj, two plants now power kitchens serving over 500 people daily, eliminating LPG use while supporting organic farming through slurry reuse. With subsidies of up to 75%, ₹12 crores have been allocated for 2025–26, and around 60 more plants are planned. The initiative highlights Gujarat’s push for sustainable energy, waste management, and self-reliance.
