US House of Representatives sprints to vote on super bill

Jul 04, 2025

Washington [US], July 4: US President Donald Trump on the morning of July 3 called a number of Republican congressmen who opposed the "big and beautiful bill" to cut taxes and spend extensively.
According to The Hill , the move came after a meeting on the evening of July 2 at the US House of Representatives failed to help Republican lawmakers reach a consensus on the bill. Writing on the social network Truth Social on July 3, Mr. Trump expressed his dissatisfaction when there were still lawmakers from his party who turned their backs on the bill. Later, the US media reported that the House of Representatives voted to bring the bill to the final round of debate. As of yesterday afternoon, it was unclear whether the bill would be passed before the US Independence Day on July 4, as Mr. Trump wanted.
In another development, President Trump on July 2 called on Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell to resign immediately, Reuters reported. Trump wants the Fed to cut interest rates and has been constantly pressuring Powell, who has so far maintained his stance of keeping lending rates unchanged.
In addition, the Trump administration also faces lawsuits from 20 states, accusing the government of violating federal privacy laws by providing data on millions of people in the Medicaid health insurance program to an agency that promotes deportation of immigrants in the US.
