May 31, 2025
Dar es Salaam [Tanzania], May 31: Tanzanian traffic police in the northern tourism hub of Arusha have provided specialized training to more than 800 tourist vehicle drivers in preparation for the upcoming tourism peak season, which officially begins in June.
Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police William Mkonda said on Friday that the initiative is designed to improve drivers' professional capacity and ensure the safety and quality of transport services offered to tourists.
"Tourist vehicle drivers are essential in shaping Tanzania's global image," Mkonda said. "By adhering to traffic regulations and conducting themselves professionally, these drivers can serve as safety ambassadors and help boost tourist arrivals."
Lembrisi Moses, chairman of the Tanzania Tour Guides Association, noted that the program reinforced drivers' knowledge of road signs, speed limits, and their responsibility to protect passengers.
"This training is a crucial step in promoting both safety and service excellence in Tanzania's tourism industry," Moses added.
