Ireland's electric car sales up 82 pct in first 10 months

Dublin [Ireland], November 10: A total of 14,707 new electric cars were sold in Ireland in the first ten months of this year, up almost 82 percent compared with the same period last year, said the country's Central Statistics Office (CSO) on Wednesday.
Over 22 percent of all the new cars sold in Ireland in the first ten months were electric cars or plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), up more than six percentage points compared with nearly 16 percent in the corresponding period of last year, CSO said.
A total of 98,130 new cars were sold in Ireland in the first ten months of this year, down 0.73 percent from a year ago.
During the same period, the number of new diesel cars sold in Ireland fell by nearly 22 percent year-on-year to 26,309, in contrast with the strong sales of electric cars and PHEVs.
As part of its climate action plan, Ireland aims to increase its share of electric vehicles to 945,000 by 2030.
There were an estimated 45,000 electric vehicles in Ireland at the end of 2021, according to official figures.
