Iran blacklists European individuals, institutions for inciting violence

Oct 27, 2022

Tehran (Iran), October 27: Iranian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday announced sanctions on a number of European individuals and institutions for inciting "terrorism and violence" in the country.
In a statement, the ministry said the sanctions were placed for their "deliberate acts to support terrorism and terrorist groups, promote and incite terrorism and violence, and engage in hatred-mongering, which have caused rioting, violence, acts of terror, and violations of human rights against the Iranian nation."
Eight institutions, including Germany's Deutsche Welle Persian language news network and France's public radio station RFI's Persian language, were on the list.
Also being sanctioned were 12 European officials, five members of European parliament, two French mayors and one lawmaker, as well as two German media chiefs.
The sanctions included bans on issuance of visas to the country, and confiscation of their properties in territory subject to the jurisdiction of Iran.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian warned last week that they would target people and institutes that have played a role in imposing medical sanctions on Iran and promoting "violence and extremism" which have caused insecurity in the country.
