Houthi attack on SW Yemeni city kills 1, injures 5

Oct 31, 2022

Sanaa [Yemen], October 31: A man was killed and five children were wounded on Sunday after Yemen's Houthi rebels fired artillery shells on the besieged city of Taiz in southwest Yemen, local medics and residents said.
Among the five children, two had leg injuries, while the others were in critical conditions, they said.
The attack targeted the neighborhood of al-Matar in the western part of the city, which has been under siege by the Houthis for seven years.
Earlier this month, UN Special Envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg announced that no agreement had been reached to renew the expired truce between Yemen's warring parties. The truce first went into force on April 2, and then was renewed twice through Oct. 2.
Yemen has been mired in a civil war since late 2014 when the Iran-backed Houthi militia stormed several northern cities and forced the Saudi-backed Yemeni government out of the capital Sanaa.
The war has killed tens of thousands of people, displaced 4 million, and pushed the country to the brink of starvation.
